Emergence of Hybrid Cloud as a Future Business Trend

Cloud computing technology has entered our personal and professional lives in many forms. Once it made its break-through, it started rapidly evolving into new solutions anyone can use. In business, cloud technology has long been a No1 topic and it continues dictating trends for companies’ development.
Over the past few years, hybrid cloud has been a popular solution among companies of different sizes and its potential is getting more and more attention. Namely, the latest cloud discussions and predictions almost unanimously agree that hybrid cloud is the fastest-growing cloud market. Gartner’s research has shortlisted hybrid cloud as one of the top 10 strategic trends for 2014, while another survey carried out by Rackspace confirmed that a growing number of businesses contemplates a ‘hybrid’ future.

What is Hybrid Cloud?

Hybrid cloud is a term used to address combination of dedicated hosting and cloud-based applications or storage, where each company decides upon its own customized way of deploying these services. In essence, hybrid cloud means that some business applications can be moved to the public cloud servers, while the most important information remains in house. This way, different businesses can optimize their IT investments and get maximum computing power in terms of storage space and software tools.

How is hybrid cloud better than private and public cloud?

Even though all these three forms of IT infrastructure have their pros and cons, it seems that hybrid cloud has the widest range of applications. This is because it can be implemented in businesses of all sizes and branches, which is usually not the case with the other two models. Public cloud is cheap and flexible but it may not be the best in terms of security and application management. This is why large organizations usually chose to operate on private servers, which are way more expensive than cloud storage but are much more reliable.
The power of hybrid cloud is in that it efficiently merges the best features of the two and allows CIOs to choose sets of tools to outsource from cloud vendors.

Impact of hybrid cloud development on future business

Cloud has already significantly changed the ways we think of the IT industry today. Hybrid cloud is not a new concept but, as it gets widely adopted, it sure has significant impact on business as we know it.
The most important thing about the emergence of hybrid cloud as the tech trend in the following years is that it’ll offer more opportunities for companies to modernize their IT infrastructure. CIOs don’t necessarily have to chose between either public or private cloud, but use both to achieve maximum business efficiency. Hybrid infrastructure will therefore drive public cloud adoption and will enable companies to cut their IT costs and still get the best computing resources their business needs.
Hybrid cloud may come in multiple forms and it’s expected that the variety of services available through it will grow substantially. While early hybrid services mostly relied on static environment, now an increasing number of providers start offering services that are more dynamic, which will eventually contribute to significant IT transformation in companies over the next few years.
